The Hundred Towers
Camiden is home to the Hundred Towers, which formed the basis of its self-rule as the Pserarch Camilla slowly withdrew from public life. The towers were built by the greatest political and economic powers of the city’s early age and have changed hands many times. Governance is done by both the Guilder Assembly and the Peers of the Tower. Currently, most major Guilds own a tower, for nothing if not the status, while others are owned by wealthy families and factions. The people of Camiden tend to have Eastern European sounding names. They are fiery and passionate and fiercely loyal to their Guilds, Family, or Tower, whichever they most identify with. Only fear of Camilla and the recognition of enemies abroad can every unite the city into a cohesive unit, and even then such displays tend to be fairly modest. Camilla, for all her domestic faults, maintains good relations with the other Pserarchs through a mix of charm, good looks, and keen interpersonal insight.
